Tonight the wine of choice is the 2018 Long Meadow Ranch Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc.
On the nose I am getting honeydew melon, mango, white peach, green apple and white flowers.
On the palate there is succulent notes of grapefruit, lime, green apple, minerals and fresh-cut green grass.
This wine is medium bodied with a crisp clean mouthfeel, mouthwatering medium+ acidity that moves nicely into a long citrusy finish. With the world seemingly opening back up from its long year and a half slumber, please continue to be safe and healthy and be kind to one another. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 7 days ago
Inky dark ruby red, black fruits : blackberry, dried plum. Tobacco, mocha, licorice and some earthy notes, very dense. Powerful at the beginning, it is becoming smooth on the palate with some dark fruit and still from tannins for the age. finishes with a good sweetness and freshness. Very elegant. — 2 days ago
Prior notes still apply, this had slightly better fill than our prior, but far more stinky on the nose, palate suberb. 🤷♂️
Nose has over-ripe stinky cherry, dry leather, moist leather, old horse pasture, tomato leaf, blackberry, dried blueberry, dried mint, saturated oak and old cigar.
Palate has blackberry, partially dried cherry, dried raspberry, (minor) moist garden soil, wet raisins with soft tannins and a long finish.
Decanted 6H. High-shoulder fill on this particular bottle, one more bottle with minimal fill loss. Quite reminiscent of older Bordeaux in the nose/palate traits.
Paired alongside medium rare Delmonico cut steaks from our favorite local farm, Kinderhook Farm (Valatie NY). Perfection. — 14 days ago
Though the brutal TX heat is back, it means plenty of time for grilling, and this was a fun red blend to pair with burgers.
A fun field blend where everything but the kitchen sink seems to be in here…mostly zin, with 6-7 lesser known varietals. A bit funky upon opening (pop and pour), this opened to reveal a brambly, tobacco leaf, weightless yet jammy profile. Soft and supple mixed fruits aromatically (mostly red and black fruits), with some added woody notes (more earthy than oak driven). The mid palate here reminds you this is zin to its core with plenty of black cherry compote and then the vibrant acidity driven finish sports some black pepper and spicy rhubarb. Mostly integrated at this point, I think this is at its apex. — 4 days ago
It’s exceedingly difficult to find a Napa cab with ABV below 14% in recent vintages. With 13.8%, this Rutherford cab is a breath of fresh air.
Fruits are refreshing yet have great depth with cherry commingling with cassis and blackberry. Licorice, tobacco, and crushed rock. The juice is dense but glides through the palate with ease and poise. Long lightly candied earthy finish. I did not detect much “Rutherford dust”, but I will take it. — 16 days ago
