Mas Du Colombel

Daumas Gassac

Mas de Daumas Gassac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

Josh M

Pure magic. The first impression is a field of lavender and wild herbs along with black currants, flowers wafting from the glass, iron, musk and wet earth. A delicate sweetness balances the impression of freshly squeezed blackberries. It ends with a brush of tannins and lingering, reverberating fruit. Elegant and achingly pretty, with a mysterious, feral undercurrent. I was reluctant to open this so young but it’s already beautiful — exhilarating really. The back label says “enjoy for its complex fruit character in the first five years, or from 7 to 25 years for its depth and complexity.” I intend to! — a day ago

@Chris A @Severn Goodwin @Ron R if you haven’t tried the ‘17, it’s stunning! Going to have to buy a case, despite having exceeded my “budget”

Mas La Plana Penedès Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Deep black color like the label. On the nose medium + aromas of black fruit ( ripe kirsch, ripe cassis creme de cassis and blackberry jam) hints of ash, toast and cedar. On the palate the wine is rich lush and very “#Mediterranean while being pure pure #Cabernet. Burgundy bottle for Cab! I appreciate it a ton but I don’t love it. Aging incredibly well. 2007 in 2020 — 7 days ago

I have many fond memories of the older vintages — 1970, 1971, 1973, 1975-1978, and 1982 — haven’t had anything newer than that, though. Really amazingly elegant wines!!

Les Baux-de-Provence Grenache Blend 2014

One of the best qprs in the wine world, consistently. So much brightness, cherry fruit and just enough herbal Provençal character- mint, rosemary and thyme- to make an unbelievably versatile food wine. Not too modern or rustic. A few years in the cellar and it’s in a perfect spot. — 18 days ago

Domaine du Mas de Sainte Croix

Mas de Sainte Croix Côtes du Rhône 2016

Very drinkable value wine. Grenache Syrah blend. Unsweet, slight bitterness from peels and stems blending nicely with tannins and juicy, but not overripe fruit. Deep cranberry purple color. 2016 vintage . I would buy this again to have on hand for dinner. Complements meaty, hearty food. — a month ago
