Le Brun Servenay

Domaine des Terres Dorées (Jean-Paul Brun)

Cuvée l'Anciene Beaujolais Gamay 2018

Beautiful Beaujolais that transcends the appellation. With 3 years it’s starting to behave like a Pinot Noir. Blind of all, we’d certainly be wrong. A wine that needs at least one hour of aeration to give time to the beautiful material to deploy. Fine, tight and persistent tannins. Serve at 12-13 degrees.

Beaujolais Blanc Classic Chardonnay 2018

Fresh and mineral. A bit like a sunny Chablis. Quite nice, but it fell a bit short when we tasted it next to a rich and tasteful dish with smoked salmon, lentils and green asparagus. — 2 months ago

Domaine des Tourelles

Rosé Bekaa Valley 2020

Alder Yarrow

We should all be drinking more Lebanese wine. Their economy could use the help in general, and the wine industry specifically. This is an interesting wine, made from old vines (70+) and a mix of Syrah, Tempranillo, and Cinsault. The Tempranillo and Cinsault are direct-pressed and see no skin contact, while the Syrah macerated for a couple of days. It’s got a wonderful smoked orange peel and clove character mixed with cherry and dried green herbs. Excellent acidity and length. Domaine des Tourelles has been making wine in the Bekaa valley since 1868, and is still owned by the Brun family who founded it. — a month ago

Pretty rich and serious Beaujolais for ~$24. Dark cherry, mushroom, damp soil, and showing lots of youth. Definitely needs some time to open up. Worked well with the rich meal. Happy Easter! — 3 months ago

Moulin-à-Vent Gamay 2009

Flowers, potpourri, lavender, lilacs, and raspberry. There’s still a tannic structure just not letting go and lots of acidity. I’m not so sure the flavor profile will change much. A bit of earth and mushroom come through with red fruit and similar flowers. It’s good. It’s ready. — a month ago
