La Rinconada Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Upon opening this is very ‘simple’ - fruit & oak forward. Cherries & vanilla. Very much like a chilled Rioja Crianza. With time more depth emerges & more complexity.
Still cherries, but also undergrowth. The oakiness fades. The nose gains freshness.
On the palate this (with time) sheds the fleshy cherry and gains freshness & crispiness. Surprisingly sturdy & dry tannins for a Pinot. And quite fleshy.
Not a Burgundy, def not a Spätburgunder, still (after some breathing time) quite. Interesting. .

That sounds not that great. I have the 2014 i think and based on this review i need to check if it actually deserves cellar space.

@Pinotman /// Andreas it’s not a bad wine, esp. after breathing a bit. But def. not in the E&M or even good Village league.

Bought this twice & excellent both times. Medium body & smooth. Definitely a go to Pinot. — 6 months ago

Eight year Kevin John - lovely with pear on the nose and pear with perfectly balanced acid on the palate. Sets a high benchmark for all premium Chardonnay.

John C. Sullenger Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

9.3

93 that leans into 94 and will see another point or two with 10 years in bottle.

Sofia and I used to go to their futures luncheon for many years. This vineyard consistently yields fruit that makes one of their best Cabernet’s.

It’s lush as it enters and falls onto dry, meaty tannins. Blackberries, creamy black raspberries, black plum with skin, dark cherries & purple fruits. Dry crushed rocks, dry top soil, limestone & volcanic minerals, moist clay, dry tobacco, new, raw leather, still very woody, mixed mid & dark berry cola, plenty of baking spices-clove, nutmeg, cinnamon & vanilla, dark spices with some heat, some dry herbs, dark melted, chocolate, cocoa powder, caramel notes, bright, fresh & candied florals that are dark, red, blue and framed in violets & lavender, ver nice round acidity with a highly structured, tensioned, well balanced and polished finish that lasts 90 seconds but still lands squarely on wood.
