Les Ruchottes Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay 2016

Continuing to dip into 2016 white burg at the top level and continuing to be pleased. Surely one of the most coveted and iconic Ramonet plots, albeit young, 2016 Ruchottes is very impressive tonight, proving the frost laden growing season is becoming a year of terroir over vintage. At first perhaps eerily opulent, it continues to focus with air and flaunts an explosive bouquet of stone fruit, citrus oils, wet stones, white flowers and toasty oak with Ramonet spearmint that comes in after some aeration. The palate is expansive, dense and concentrated with an elegant texture and just enough citrusy acids to support its imposing richness. If I were to nitpick I’d like more length but this is a great bottle. — 8 days ago

Domaine Pichot

Domaine Le Peu de la Moriette Vouvray Chenin Blanc

Jean-Claude Pichot’s family is one of the oldest in Vouvray, with origins dating back to 1739. 100% Chenin Blanc, with aromas of fresh tropical fruits and honey nuts. On the palate pineapple and melon with lime citrus, lively acidity, good balance with a touch of sweetness on the medium finish. Went well with chops drizzled in a balsamic glaze. — 4 years ago

Belles Grives Morgon Gamay 2018

I always say you have to subtract several points off a JS rating but this one you only have to subtract a couple. This is pretty though: raspberries, jammy, dry and acidic. Balanced. — 18 days ago

Montchoisy Morgon Gamay 2017

Black berries. Fruit forward but not light. Very good Beaujolais. Drank with trigger fish, couscous, and grilled shrimp in white wine butter sauce. Very good pairing even though a slightly bolder Beaujolais. — 4 days ago

Blanchot Dessus Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2011

Beautiful notes of white flowers, hint of wax, quince, lemon rind, oyster shell. Lifted acidity and juicy mid palate that ends in a long finish. Great stuff. — 7 days ago

Domaine des Berthiers Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Bright and fruity nose, stone fruits (apricot, not quite ripe tangerine), medium body, high acid, some minerality. Tasty wine and perfect with all the "nearly authentic Chinese cuisine" here. — 4 years ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2014

2014 this is a whopper bacon fat plus plus, tannins galore either it will resolve or explode, cork pulled way to soon — 4 years ago
