Toasty, sweaty and smoked meat notes vie with dried cherry and red currant for aromatic attention on the nose of the 2019 Red Wine Niedermenniger Herrenberg trocken. The palate perpetuates those impressions with an alluringly silky feel allied to just enough juiciness. Rose hip, cherry pit, black tea and black pepper lend complexity to an impressively sustained finish. (For why this 100% Pinot Noir is labeled simply, in English, “Red Wine,” consult my review of the corresponding 2017.) (David Schildknecht, Vinous, May 2022)

Delicious, ramato-style Pinot Grigio from Friuli, Italy, and a lovely complement to a tofu stir fry with broccoli, snow peas, carrots, tamari, red chili, mirin, and sesame flavors.
It offers a supportive lift to the meal with citrus notes of grapefruit peel, orange peel, lemon pith, also dried herbs, melon, cantaloupe, blanched almond, and wet stone. Yet it doesn’t compete. It’s a beautiful pairing! — 3 months ago

The 2019 Chardonnay Ciampagnis is a gentle giant, as sweet spice and white flowers complement musky apple and pear. Its silky textures communicate elegance just as a zesty bump of nervous acids and tart orchard fruits add a reverberation of tension. The 2019 turns smoky through the finale, leaving ginger-tinged apricot, zests of lime and the slightest nuance of butterscotch to linger. I love the contrasts here, yet a short stay in the cellar is advised to allow its aromatics to fully blossom. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Straw gold color. Blend of Malvasia (45%), Rhein Riesling (40%) and Friulano (15%). Intensely floral on the nose with a hints of apricot, honey and a touch of petrol. Green apple, pear and minerals fill the pallet. Spicy and citrusy finish. Clean and rich. Intense acidity. Outstanding food wine. — 13 days ago
