Duval Leroy

Domaine Leroy

Bourgogne Chardonnay 2015

Similar notes to previous bottle when posted in December 2020 but more fulsome on the palate with more stone fruit and less mineral than then. Palate showing peach and nectarine with diminished acid and salinity. Very delicious and probably worth the $115 AUD. A little cleansing citric acid to finish off. — 17 days ago

@David T I agree David. In this warm vintage showing a little new world but overall it was excellent.

Her Premier Cru and Grand Cru are priced in the stratosphere these days.

Plexus Shiraz Blend 2015

Medium to full crimson in colour. I love GSM - or as this wine is SGM with Shiraz predominant. Spicy Tarry red berry aromas. All the varieties blend well here but overall it is very Barossa. John Duval, the winemaker, was once Penfolds Chief Winemaker from 1986 to 2002. There have only been 4 Penfolds Grange winemakers - Max Schubert (creator in 1951), Don Ditter, John Duval and now Peter Gago the current Chief Winemaker since 2002. A wine that goes well with food or has the substance to do equally well on its own. — a month ago

I tasted the Entity bottling, and it was very good as well. Would love to try this GSM blend.

Have not had a lot of experience with Duval wines under his own label but he would have excellent connections with the growers from his days with Penfolds.

Duval-Leroy

Premier Cru Brut Champagne Blend

Popped and poured. Deep straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, this Champagne has autolytic and oxidative notes of almond breakfast croissants and marzipan with lemon curd. That palate is quite rich with citrus and nuts. I must admit that all of my previous experiences with Duval Leroy has been with the standard blue label Brut NV which does not carry the Premier Cru designation so take the following comments with a grain of salt. Based off the color, flavor profile, and the fact that cork did not expand after being extracted, I am left to wonder if this wine has seen some years of age. Unfortunately, there is no disgorgement data to be found and the date code is all gibberish to me. Regardless, a perfectly nice bottle of Champagne if you like those more oxidative qualities. — 2 months ago

I really dislike oxidative notes so I would have been less generous/objective than you had I popped this! Kudos for remaining objective.

Yeah I asked Delectable to identify it as they did not list a Maison GE but still came back with the Domain. I have drank more than a case of this & it has always been amazing showing the Leroy spice.

The 85 Ruchottes and the 66 Corton are also great Maison Leroy. Sadly I have little left. Ageless stuff.
