Châteauneuf-du-Pape White Rhone Blend 2018

Ming L

The nose is a bit shy with lime, white peach, and subtle honey due. The palate is the real standout, expressive, bright yet viscous, with profound minerality. Long saline finish.
70% Clairette, 25% Grenache Blanc, and the rest Bourboulenc, brought up mostly in stainless steel.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2004

Green note, redfruits and just a minor barnyard (Brett?) note, solid fruit, good acid balance, this isn’t quite as deep as the 2001, seems at peak, very good tonight. — 2 months ago

Cuvée De Mon Aïeul Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2015

One of Usseglio’s top cuvées, Mon Aïeul (“my granddad”) is 100% Grenache from some of the estate’s oldest vines (about 85 years of age) in La Crau, La Guigasse and Les Grandes Serres lieux-dits – each with a different type of soil.

Situated on an elevated plateau to the east of the village, La Crau is perhaps Châteauneuf’s most famous cru, known for its distinctive “galets roulés”, large, rounded river stones deposited here by the Rhône millions of years ago. To the south of the village, Les Grandes Serres is a very warm site on gravelly alluvial soils (and the source of the estate’s biggest wine, the 18% ABV “Not for You”). La Guigasse, on the other hand, is a cooler, sandier site with hardly any galets located on the northeastern part of the appellation, near the famous Pignan and Rayas lieux-dits (Chateau Rayas)

Mostly unoaked, it was brought up in concrete vats, with 15-20% in demi-muids. Ruby red color. Intensely perfumed, with notes of red and dark fruit (strawberry, raspberry), licorice and herbs. Full-bodied, rich, opulent and concentrated. Ripe fruit (cherry) and white pepper, smooth and creamy on the palate. Long, velvety, quite tannic finish. Hedonistic wine.

La Cave du Prieuré Compostelle Mondeuse 2019

Just delicious! I’ve had great luck w/Savoie wines and this was no different: pours extremely dark, inky, opaque, brooding taking its time to unfurl black & red fruit w/depth, earthy w/a hi tone note along with licorice and forest floor. Big mouth filling broad across palate, gobs of fruit but all fit into sturdy tannic frame. Well cut - a Country Squire — 10 months ago

Réserve des Deux Frères Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

This is a very powerful and layered all grenache CdP. 100+ year vines from the domaines best plots. The palate is packed with dark ripe berries, violets, dried flowers, char, pastille and more. Expressive. Could use more time in the bottle but already impressive. — 3 months ago
