Colle Stefano

Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica 2019

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2019 Verdicchio di Matelica is racy and vibrant in the glass with a kiss of sweetness that I’m finding quite alluring. Lemon zest, peppery herbs and florals give way to crushed limestone and hints of peach. It’s soothing and gentle, yet with enough juicy acids and spice to create a wonderfully balanced expression. Salty minerals linger long on this tension-filled and thirst-quenching Verdicchio. (Eric Guido, Vinous, September) — a month ago

Tabarrini

"Colle Grimaldesco" Montefalco Sagrantino 2008

The Tabarrini Montefalco Sagrantino ages 18 months in casks, 18 months in small barrels and 18 months in the bottle before its release. This is an absolute minimum to tame its tannines. The wine is dark, dense and a mouthful! Its firm structure is accompanied by cherry, plum, and black berry. Age worthy still! — 2 months ago

Collezione Ca' Del Pipa Colle Cristi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2015

Huge nose of plum, lavender, strawberry jam, raspberry jam, vanilla, almond extract, and cranberry. Big red fruit on the palate of dark cherry, fresh raspberry, cranberry, as well as black tea, licorice, menthol, black pepper, cinnamon, clove, leather, white pepper, sage, oak, and blackberry. Medium plus tannins, high alcohol, and high acid. — 25 days ago

Coppi

Senatore Primitivo 2015

This Primitivo shows a medium-dark tint in the glass and a nose that is all fruit, all the time. Cherry aromas are joined by notes of plum and cassis, with just a hint of oak. After it sits for a bit, a whiff of smoke gathers at the top of the glass. The palate shows a lot of earthiness and a chalky quality, which we can chalk up to minerality. There is a lengthy finish that turns slightly tart on the fade. I would love to have this wine with some nice Italian sausages and pasta, or a meatball sub.

Il Rosso Alfio Moriconi Selection Toscana Sangiovese 2019

Clear garnet. Nose of black cherry and roses. Medium light, fruity palate of black cherry, violets, and a hint of anise. Medium plus acidity. Medium minus tannins. Hey, it’s a solid Sangiovese that’ll go great with Italian-American fare or medium cheeses. Drink now. — 2 months ago
