Brunello in disguise.
Mostly Sangiovese with as they say a small amount of Pugnitello.
Raised up in med toast barrique and tonneaux. I decanted 3 hrs.
N: Big, warm, Black cherry and Liquorice nose. You can sense the wood but it’s not intrusive. Red flowers/ Geraniums, whiff of vanilla.
P:Cherry bomb, souis bois, dirt,( in the best way) charcoal, pencil lead, nice tannic grip, beautiful acid balance. More black/red flowers. Long finish.
Not as “bright “ as many Chianti, rides the “ darkness” of Brunello, weight in between. — 2 days ago
— 7 days ago
I got 4 of these for a song, and as time has passed, each bottle is better than the last. Obviously I suck at identifying when a young wine could actually improve. This is the last bottle and it’s just relaxed and delicious. Complex nose has humus, mocha, dark cherries macerated in chokecherry brandy, Christmas spice, and gravel. Soft, fluid, and flavorful, with nice acids, it’s got really nice graphite-inflected cherry fruit. Tannins barely present in the soft-textured finish. — 5 days ago
Elegant and restrained. When we first popped the cork there was just an overwhelming scent of violets and concentrated fruit. That slide quickly and turned into a lovely and tight wine. Flavors of both cold resting and warm slightly roasted fruit, solid structure they didn’t have an any harsh tannins but also was warm and welcoming without being flabby. Had it with of all things a venison sausage carbonara and it complemented it beautifully. — 3 days ago
