Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

I had the CB 05 just about a year ago. Might be some bottle variation but this one felt a bit more raw and green than my previous encounter. Still amazing. Just a small observation. — 8 days ago

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Cabernet Franc - Merlot Blend 2012

This wine is drinking beautifully with concentrated and ripe black cherry, creme de cassis, mulberry, plum, purple fig, violet, black licorice, anise, graphite, pencil shavings, sandalwood, vanilla bean, clove, leather, forest floor, and tobacco notes.

It has an excellent balance of primary, secondary and tertiary characteristics.

On the palate, it has a silky texture and fine-grained tannins. Acidity adds lift. High alcohol contributes to the full body and robust mouthfeel.

It’s made with 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Terrazas de Los Andes

Cheval des Andes Mendoza Malbec Blend 2016

If you will excuse the baseball euphemism, Cheval does not play small ball. And this venture in Argentina is brilliant. This one has been on her side long enough to enjoy long ball now, as in very long finish. And a fab value at < $100 — 4 months ago

I enjoyed this wine but perhaps not quite as much as RP’s 97 points. It was a little tart to open but mellowed with air. I was expecting a higher alcohol, more straightforwardedly fruity wine given the Argentine origins. However, the winemaker is explicitly targeting a Bordeaux taste in the style of Chateau Cheval Blanc. After I read that, the taste clicked a bit more. A smooth, tasty expression of the Bordeaux style. 62% malbec, 38% cabernet. $80. Would drink again. — 2 months ago
