Châteauneuf Du Pape, Southern Rhône

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 1995

Slightly cloudy garnet ruby core . Some herbal and slightly funky undergrowth , dried red fruits, dried mushroom , tobacco and dried spices, touch medicinal also. On the palate still some fruit , dried red cherry, those sous bois notes , rose and spice , liquorice . Balanced acidity, noticeable slightly angular tannin. Ok length with just a touch of warmth , slightly smoky finish . This is mature and should be drunk as I don’t see it improving. Drink Now and next 5 years . — 3 days ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc White Rhone Blend

Wow, just wow !!- a 17-year-old Rhône white from a well praised winery. The blend is wonderful. Even 2 varietals I had never tasted before- Picardan and Bourboulenc. still drinking in near perfect harmony. I wish I had a case. — 5 days ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2015

Jan A

Over three years since I opened up the first bottle. Still young-ish but much easier to drink after a quick decant of half an hour. All the typical scents and taste of C9DP. Very balanced. Clearly from a warm climate but retaining ample freshness. Like it a lot. Hope I can keep my hands off it in the coming years to check in on the remaining bottles every couple of years — 20 hours ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2017

+1 hour decant(some fine/cloudy sediment). A prodigious medium ruby red color. On the nose: red fruit, licorice, herbs, sandlewood, smoked meat. Taste: Still youthful and energetic with red raspberry/plum, dark currants, tea, earth, and a clove/dark chocolate med plus finish. YUM! — 16 days ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2011

We went off grid with this wine to accompany a delicious cheese selection. Had all the CdP descriptors without being heavy - medium to full bodied. Earthy with red berries - a tarry note. Good without being very good even with the age. — 8 days ago

La Crau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 1998

Beautiful ruby in color, with a very wide reddish rim. Bricking at the very top.

Light nose with red and black fruits, light cedar and tobacco leaf.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black plums, currants, cherries, earth, black coffee, oak, herbs, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, dark chocolates and black tea.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 26 year old from the great 1998 vintage in Southern Rhone is drinking beautifully now. Soft and smooth, elegant and earthy.

Not so good right out of the bottle, and needed 90 minutes of airtime to open up properly, so be patient.

Robert Parker 95 points. Wine Spectator 94 points.

Will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

Showing nice complexity and good balance.

I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

14% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$120 (current vintage).

A delightful CDP! Full-bodied but not overpowering. Smokey and tangy with a lot of floral notes. Raspberries, kirsch, blackberries, with a satisfying finish. Drinking exceptionally well now. — 22 days ago
