Château Calon Ségur

Château Calon-Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Tasted blind. Dark color but doesn’t seem too old. Nice old world nose. Notes of plums, old wood, some barn floor, some gravel stone, and some spice. I deduce that this is 80s Bordeaux but I say I don’t think it’s an 82. I go with a guess if 85 Haut Brion. When revealed I remember how the 82 Calon Segur plays it’s hand. It gets bigger and better over the evening. Good stuff but I wouldn’t wait much longer on opening these. — 20 days ago

Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 1973

Well well well. Delivered in spades despite it being a furtive end-of-evening PnP. Super classic, beautiful stable fruit and wood. Huge length. WOTN for me if only that the ‘96 Calon was still so young. — a month ago

Celebrating mate 40a. Bluefruit, mineral, chalky, bubblegum, pretty good can go another 5 yrs. The group prefer Calon over this one but I like this better. Modern style bordeaux. — 10 months ago

Montagne-St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Smells like blackberries and minerals - like a mild forest river. Some slight vegetal or spice smell - like pine or cardamom? Tastes like it smells - blackberries and a little bit of mild herbs, with a dash of very slight wintergreen. Smooth, velvety tannins. I really like it. Fine price at the usual $20, awesome deal at the $11-for-the-last-of-the-stock that I paid. Went back and bought everything that was left. EDIT: BAY LEAF. IT TASTES A BIT LIKE BAY LEAF! Thanks to the other reviewer, he nailed it. — a month ago
