Cade central 1/2016 — 2 years ago
This Spanish Rioja is just as good as the CADE cab I just had and is less than half the price, therefore it gets a perfect score. The difference is the rioja is a tad bit sweeter in the beginning and possesses less tannins in the finish. It also has a little more buttery middle. We drove up Howell Mountain to get to Cade two Sundays ago. What we witnessed was a horror show of fire damage. It’s hard to see nature destroyed in such a fashion. What was worse were all the brick chimneys only standing where there were once a home or a winery building.
Glass fire note. The fire investigation revealed the fire was started by a Cakebread electric fence short. An additional saddening note is Dolores Cakebread, the co-founder of Cakebread Cellars died shortly after the Glass Fire started. She was 90. No way to know if the stress of the fire factored into her passing.
We started with two Sauvignon Blancs. I enjoyed this one more than than the 2019. It simply has had a year longer in bottle to round out.
The 2018 proved to be a classic Napa Sauvignon Blanc. The 2018 was thick, nicely round and good viscosity. Tropical in style. Lots of melons, pineapple, white stone fruits, lighter citruses, beautiful, soft mid minerality with very good acidity and well balanced & polished finish.
Photos of; Cade Estate vines, outside patio tasting area, infinity wall and their Estate Cabernet fruit unharvested. Sadly, about 80-85% of the 2020 Napa Valley Cabernet fruit will never see bottling. — 2 years ago
absolutely delicious rosè recommended by the waiter. it’s bright, light with some fizz with some acidity. there were some bubbly strawberry flavors. i had it with a baked chicken. — 2 months ago
Sorry to say I turned 60 a couple of weeks ago. My daughters came in to celebrate this past weekend and we wanted to drink some good wine. What a trio: ‘12 Cade Reserve, ‘13 Cardinale, and ‘05 Leoville Las Cases. Ironically, I am going to score all 3 of these as 97+. They were really a treat. The Las Cases was decanted for 5 hours and it was clear that we were about 7 years too early. It’s a terrific wine and at at age ~25 it will be absolutely stunning. Already has balance and harmony. Can’t wait until I am about 67 so that I can revisit the remaking 11 bottles! — a year ago

Wonderful smell and delicious, smooth finish. Not super bitey but not mild either. Recommend it! — 6 days ago
