Ca' La Bionda

La Ca' Nova

Vigne Bric Mentina Montefico Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2014

This has been in the decanter only an hour but it’s already amazing. Utterly classic nose of dried rose petals, musky spice, macerated cherry, loamy soil studded with crystallized shards of crushed stone. In the mouth the flavors have gone secondary and about to get some tertiary stuff: Rich mahogany furniture, dark cherry, leather, soil notes, underbrush. The 2014 tannins are there, but they’re not intrusive. Nice length. — a month ago

Ca' del Laito Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore Corvina Blend 2017

On the nose cherry syrup, some tobacco, and a touch of mint. Reminds me of the smell of my nono’s cantina when I was young. The wine is soft and plush; light tannins, a long, lingering finish. Cherry is the emphasis — 14 days ago

Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2020

A well-made Valpo is one of life’s simple pleasures. This one certainly is. Light, great fruit, nice acids. Perfect for chicken roll-ups with prosciutto and Swiss cheese braised in white wine. — 3 months ago

Ca' Lojera

Lugana Trebbiano 2021

Very nice and unusual white. Turbiana from near lake Garda. Odd grape - seems like we don’t know if it’s really trebbiano or Verdicchio. Salty and acidic in a good way. Quite a good value. — 3 months ago

Ca' del Baio (Giulio Grasso)

Langhe Nebbiolo 2019

Quite enjoyable from start to finish. Red berries and brambles, and tarry tobacco preamble subtle tannins. Herbal notes present on the nose. Medium to light body. It has quite lovely, balanced acidity. While the finish isn’t notable, it is persistently there. This is a great every day wine from the Piemonte! — a month ago

Weinig tannines. — 2 months ago
