Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Outstanding claret. Old library, leather, tobacco and blue fruits on the perfume. Palate is perfectly balanced with blue fruits, cassis and fully integrated tannins and that mid-palate sweetness I love in old wines. Incredible and long finish. — 14 days ago

Castle Rock Estate

Porongurup Riesling 2021

I looove my Great Southern Rieslings which is why I was super excited to tuck into this kindly gifted sample bottle from Castle Rock Estate (thank you!).

It’s a 2021 Porongurup Skywalk Riesling which retails for approximately $20. Definitely food friendly and also cellar worthy.

In the glass it’s a hay like colour with plentiful lemon-lime citrus characteristics, notes of apricot, musk sticks and minerality. In the mouth it’s fresh, juicy and crisp. A fantastic aperitif wine and it’s also so Asian cuisine justice.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

A terrific winemaker with a great palate and all round nice bloke is Rob Diletti. We visited his cellar door a few years ago and had a private tasting with him. A good article in today’s Weekend Australian by James Halliday.

Santenay Beauregard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Very enjoyable. Nose has vibrant, sappy dark cherry juice, a bit of sweet spice, and warm, crushed-rock infused minerality and a little teeny bit of cow pasture. Savory, with nice flavor concentration in the mouth, nice minerality and zingy acids at the tail end of the finish. Whispy tannins. So drinkable now, but will be better in 2-4. — 6 days ago

Domaine Tempier

Bandol Rosé Blend 2020

👃 Watermelon, cold peach, cold clementine peel, crushed rock.

👅 Under-ripe peach, cold raspberry, red currant, orange zest.

Lovely, been a while since we've grabbed this bottle, in a great spot, probably killer in 2-4Y, but I'll never know; one off purchase.

Yep. Always lovely (I rarely use that word, but all Tempier’s wines are lovely).

Broken Rock Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

It is time for a delicious Cabernet on this #FridayCabernetfix.

Dark ruby in color with a pretty reddish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, black currants, cooked raisins, cedar, figs, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, Mediterranean spices, coffee, light earth, eucalyptus and mint.

Full bodied and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with black currants, cooked plums, oak, vanilla, raisins, eucalyptus, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a fantastic Cabernet Sauvignon from a great vintage in Napa Valley. This Single Vineyard is elegant, rich and fruit forward.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. Peaked at 3 hours in the decanter.

This 9 year old is drinking very nicely now. Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel.

I've had it over a year ago, and it is drinking even better now. Peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.

A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot and Petit verdot. Aged for 28 months in mostly new French Oak barrels. A tiny production of less than 5 barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

94 points.

$115.

This is a bold, well-balanced pinot. Red cherry eithout being too acidic; hint of fireworks and wet volcanic rock (but not too much). $63, would drink again. — 3 days ago
