Côtes du Rhône Red Rhône Blend 2021

Wine 6 of my birthday blind tasting. A good old guigal to finish it up 😊 always a success. I called côtes du Rhône ✌️
The nose was a bit muted at first but then these unmistakable garrigue and black olive notes kicked in. There is blackberry and cherry notes too. The palate shows a good acid drive, some savoury notes along with blackberry, some width, a good tannic wall in the rear that leaves a drying layer over a long rather savoury and salty finish with black olives and blackberry notes. It's as always, a great option. I will have another glass with lunch, roasted duck and veggies will get along quite well with it.

La Turque Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2013

Tasting the 2013 La Las this was the weakest of the three. A good wine but not great and lacking in wow factor. Probably too young but more bla bla than la la at the moment. — 11 days ago

Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe

Télégramme Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2021

Polished, heady, and flavorful. Smooth PnP.
Not as energetic on day 2, which I often find with Grenache.

Cornas Reynard (R) Syrah 2011

La Mouline Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2013

The best of the three Guigal wines at the moment. Juniper and bay leaf dominated the palate in this wine that seemed more integrated and developed than the other two. Went well with venison. — 11 days ago

La Landonne Côte-Rotie Syrah

This needs time. Has the highest potential from the three and is already smooth and rounded. Taste wise there are some bordeauxy flavours...just needs another 5-10 years — 11 days ago

Le Vieux Donjon

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2015

Medium-bodied but somehow rich, the 2015 cuvée from Le Vieux Donjon is loaded with sappy red fruit balanced by garrigue, anise, and florals. Easy drinking but not simple, it pleased a wide range of palates at our Christmas dinner. Still seems to have the legs to go a few more years. — 20 hours ago

La Doriane Condrieu Viognier 2020

Only got a taste before this emptied. Every btl of these feels different, and this one was fresh and acid driven. — 8 hours ago

@Ira Schwartz, agreed. I do still have more 750s and magnums of this wine.

Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2022

We were initially drawn to this iconic Art Deco label but fell in love with what’s on the inside…

This Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC wine is a blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsault & Mourvèdre, produced by L’Oratoire des Papes.

It’s a youthful wine (considering its potential lifespan) bursting with fruit on the nose and palate, such as stewed strawberry, ripe raspberry, red and black plum, cherry, boysenberry, blueberry, kirsch, wildflowers, dark chocolate, vanilla, cured meat, graphite, licorice, anise, black peppercorn, clove, tobacco, and wet leaves.

On the palate this wine is dry, with warming and well-integrated alcohol (15% ABV), a full body, and notable acidity that adds lift to the plush and fleshy characteristics. The tannins are ripe and smooth. The finish lingers.

We’re appreciating the balance of vibrant fruit and layers of non-fruit qualities.
