Alexander Valley Vineyards

Cyrus Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

Enjoyed another bottle more in 2022, maybe not aging well in the closet ($37), but still very nice with Pat’s grilled steak. Dense, full bodied and a bit of sediment. — 4 months ago

John Bookwalter Winery

Protagonist 2013

Preferred the Readers 2019, but we didn’t decant this bottle and probably should have ($37). — a year ago

Vintage Brut Champagne Blend 2004

Delectable Wine
9.8

The 2004 Vintage is a gorgeous Champagne that is just beginning to enter its first plateau of maturity. Dried flowers, brioche, mint, marzipan, tangerine peel and spice lend notable nuance throughout. A hint of reduction adds intrigue. As always, the 2004 is a linear, focused Champagne endowed with terrific energy. It is impeccably done. There's a bit more Chardonnay and Meunier than usual in this vintage, and that very much comes through in the wine's personality and overall feel. The blend is 37% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay and 24% Meunier as opposed to the more classic 50%/35%/15% blend. Disgorged: Summer 2018. Krug ID: 318031. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2024)

Tamarelli Vineyards

Mendoza Cabernet Franc 2020

This Argentinian Cabernet Franc is still young, but already enjoyable even by itself.

Full bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, tobacco leaf, Mediterranean spices, vegetables, bitter herbs and peppercorn.

Nice finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.
