Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Nearly 20 years in bottle. It is still ascending will drink well for another 15 days plus years.

From a warm vintage. Beautiful, even toned fruits with elegant earth & amazing lead pencil bloom for days.

This is approaching its peak, another 5 years from its peak.

Well resolved wine-fruits. The fruits are juicy, blackberries, black raspberries, plum skin, dark cherries & slightly, poached strawberries with a highlight of pomegranate. Mocha, dark chocolate, black tea, sandalwood, sandstone, limestone, some mushroom notes, dark, rich turned earth w/ dry leaves, dry tobacco, dry leather, dry herbs, dry stone, caramel notes, dry, withering, dark, purple & red flowers with excellent acidity, balance, tension, structure and finish for days that lasts 90 seconds.

Bodegas El Nido

Clio Jumilla Monastrell-Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2021

Owned in collaboration with Chris Ringland, Jorge Ordonez, Miguel Gil and others, located in Valley of La Aragona inside the Murcia district of Jumilla. Very dark Ruby, purple edges with floral fruit aromas and floral spice. On the palate blueberry and sweet black cherry flavors, savory with great mouthfeel, 24 months aging on French and American oak, the 70% Monastrell and 30% Cab Sauv has fine soft tannins, well integrated with oak, long finish ending with mineral tones, Will age well! — 3 months ago

Enderle & Moll

Liaison Pinot Noir 2021

After a warm 2020 this 2021 is more backwards and classic and reminds me of the 2016‘s. The first bottle had a touch VA which blew off. Second one has no VA. Violets and a hint of roses. Robust beautiful cherry 🍒. Touch bark. This is a top vintage for them. Awesomeness in a bottle for a ridiculous low price for this quality. It’s hard to put the glass down - it is that good. So in this instance I do rate this higher than Lyle F. 3 days later on the Argon line - this is still exceptional elegant and unique. Gained weight and at the same time super elegant. What a wine. — 7 months ago

2022 is much better for me. Best since 18. 21 is nice but lacks some density.

C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España)

Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2004

Last Sunday lunch with Roast Lamb. A 20 year old Rioja fitted the bill nicely. A blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. Aged in new French and American oak for 24 months. Aromatics of tobacco leaf, plum, ashphalt and a bit of tar. A medicinal note the following night. The palate is medium to full bodied with berry, plum and liquorice. Resolved Tannins - quite fluid. This was Wine Spectators No. 1 wine for 2013 and now drinking at its peak but could go on for another 5 years on the evidence of this superb wine. — 9 months ago

Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

If you haven’t had a well aged bottle of this producer, you owe to yourself to acquire a bottle or more.

I had the 06 Sunday and it had much bigger tannins…it was still youthful…more so than this 08 tonight.

Tonight this was leaner than the 06, but had beautiful fruits, nice evolution and violets for days. The nose & the palate blossomed with florals, ripe fruits & also had excellent acidity/finish.

It was a nose that the group engaged in for quite awhile before sipping. Truly special.

Turley

Juvenile California Zinfandel 2022

Built from 25 vineyards in nine counties, the Turley Juvenile is a summation of California Zinfandel in a single bottling. The ‘22, released this spring (‘24) is an excellent example, with bright berries and soft florals layered over darker fruits and a wonderfully smooth texture. Highly drinkable now and for the next several years. Let’s hope it stays one of the great bargains in California wine. — 6 months ago

Sandlands

Lodi Red Table Wine 2022

A blend in three equal parts of Cinsault from the Bechthold Vineyard (1886), Carignane from Spenker Ranch (1900) and Zinfandel from Kirschenmann Vineyard (1915).

Popped and poured; consumed over three days. Consistent throughout but probably showed best on day three. The 2022 Lodi pours, a deep ruby color with a transparent core and a slightly watery rim. Medium viscosity, with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine youthful and expressive with notes of black bramble fruit, blueberries, soft red flowers, red rope licorice, and rocky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry; medium tannins and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is lengthy and full of minerals and wow, it is juicy. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Tegan is redefining Lodi. These wines show so much character and yet have all the Lodi DNA. Drink now and through 2032. 40 barrels produced.

Dana Estates

Onda Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

The 2016 showed nice ripe fruits and falls into style of the other 2016’s I have tasted. Not as complex as the other vintages but a nice elegant wine.

Photos of Dana Estates 9/14/24 Onda release party. Estate fruit about 10 days to two weeks from picking. Akaushi New York Yorkshire Pudding.

R. López de Heredia

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2011

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three days. Consistently enjoyable throughout, but best after several hours of air and through Day 3. The wine pours, a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. No signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with expressive notes of ripe and dried cherry, plums, toasted coconut, fresh dill, cedar chest, and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose however, the fruit is much more tart. The finish is long and tangy. A textbook example of old-school Rioja. Lovely. Drink now with patience and through 2036. — 3 months ago

@Ceccherini Cristiano lol…I think the same thing. I certainly have some in the cellar but not nearly as deep as I would like. I guess there’s always time, right? 🤣 Regardless, thank you.

Heitz Cellar

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

David T
9.4

I compare the Heitz Napa to the Joseph Phelps Napa in many ways. I believe the Phelps is slightly less vintage dependent than Heitz. But, this 07 like the vintage in Napa, sensational.

This 2007 is peaking. Perfectly ripe & juicy; brambly blackberries, creamy black raspberries, black plum, dark cherries/kirsch, blueberries come on late and poached strawberries on the edges. The tannins are still dark and tarry. Rich, sweet, dark soils, mid & dark berry cola, anise, steeped black tea, dry tobacco, used leather, cedar/sandalwood, clove, nutmeg, some cinnamon & vanillin, moist, grey volcanic clay, dry crushed rocks, limestone, mid spice, hints of grilled meat, some fresh/dry herds, a tad of eucalyptus, stewy/tumble weed, fresh & withering dark, red, blue florals framed in violets, excellent round acidity, the scope of the finishes encompasses; balance for days, nice structure & tensioned, elegant, polished and lasts two minutes.

Photos all taken around their tasting room on Hwy 29 when their tasting was still the last free tasting in Napa. Still not over the family selling to a corporation that has no wine experience.
