Ruby with a rich bouquet of fruit, spices and floral notes, fruit from several vineyards, vinified and aged separately. On the palate flavors of cherry and raspberry with notes of pepper, cinnamon and floral. Long finish, nice balance with fine soft tannins ending with earthy notes. Enjoyable now, a few more years will benefit.

Feb 27th, 2022Popped and poured; consumed over two days. Best on Day 2. The 2013 “Castiglione” pours a pretty garnet with a translucent core, medium+ viscosity with no obvious staining of the tears. Red fruits with roses, dried herbs, red rope licorice, and a touch of baking spices. On the palate the wine is dry, medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Nicely ripened red and dark fruits with some hints of tobacco and baking spices. This is a very good wine however, for my taste, this is too glossy and polished for what I want in a Barolo. That being said, the modern sensibilities will be appreciated by many. This seems to have a long life ahead. If I had some in my cellar, I would drink over the next ten years.
