Uccelliera
Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Open and integrated, definitely mature. Smooth, dark and not overly expressive. Cherries, iron, woodsmoke, vanilla, coffee, spice. Not terribly exciting but solid

Jan 17th, 2022My 16th Valentines Day with Holly so why not celebrate with a wedding year wine from one of my favorite producers in Montalcino. Cork pulled perfectly. Decanted for about two hours before our meal. On the nose, dark cherries, candied almonds (the ones you get from a German toaster), sandalwood, smoldering piñon, and leather; on the palate, hommade cherry/rhubarb pie, balsamic, mushrooms, black tea, and dried herbs. After a couple of hours, chocolate covered oranges entered the profile. It was awesome. Still quite tannic. Very dry. Acid is medium plus. The 2005 vintage is often overlooked but these wines are drinking fabulously right now.

Feb 19th, 2021Balance of ripeness, tannin, and acidity. Drinking beautifully and offering up everything I want in aged Brunello; leathery, stewed fruit but not suffering from high oxidation, reduced tomato, tobacco, sweet meat, dried roses, cedar, turned earth and porcini in the background. Granular tannins, structured but pliant at this point, giving length and posture.

Feb 7th, 2021Whoa! This was somewhat unexpected. Aromas of blood orange rind, black cherries and fecal matter...but in a good way...just gotta trust me on this one. Dark cherry liqueur, amaretto, anise, clove, and nutmeg on the palate. Kinda wild stuff actually. The 15% ABV isn’t a surprise considering the amount of power in the glass but it’s really well hidden. Fascinating expression from Uccelliera.

Sep 6th, 2017Rhubarb, cranberry, earth, tobacco, dried herbs, oregano, savory meat, and Brett. M+ acid, round tannin, body and finish. M+ complexity. Lots of structure. Tart fruit on the palate.
