Gran Selezione Effe 55 Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend

Great wine. Gran selezione is always a bit underwhelming to me but this one holds its own.

Needed a lotttt of time to open up and could use a few more years in the bottle. But the acidity is awesome! Paired really nicely with aged Beemster.

SJOS Tasting

100% Sangiovese. Medium ruby color. Intense aromas of black cherry/currant, graphite and violets. Same fruits on the palate with notes of forest floor, bittersweet chocolate and dried bay leaves. Nice mineral/herbal note on the finish. Dense structure and vibrant acidity. Powerful and complex, but very well balanced. Very “Bordeaux-like.” Tailor-made for the American palate. Dark ruby with notes of dark cherries, forest floor, and plum. On the bud, cherries and stewed fruits. Nicely balanced and smooth long finish. Great from the restaurant balcony at Le Vecchie Mura in San Gimignano!!!

Tasty cherry with some earth and smoke. Plenty of acid. Noticeable but smooth tannins.

Dry and powerful. On the nose: cherry and earth. On the palate: fresh red fruits and anise. Nice lenght and good complexity, with a savory aftertaste.
