Vintage 2015 | Umbrian blend of Sangiovese, Sagrantino and Merlot. Funky fruit, quaffable and a Point. Wish I had bought much more of these wine. Paired with lamb tenderloin and zucchini tarts.

Vintage 2015 / wine from #umbria central #italy with the unusual blend of #sangiovese #sagrantino and #merlot (on barrel). It was quite harsh in bitters/aftertaste immediately after opening, tannins also. But when it had aeration the wine softened and even shows frivolousness 🙃 Beautiful strawberries in smell, smooth taste. I liked this transformation. Awesome PRQ. I presume it will even gets better within a few years.

A more dark-fruited expression of Montefalco Rosso. Black cherry, blackberry, licorice and wilted rose. You can sense the velvety caress of the 15% Merlot, but Sangiovese’s herbaceousness leads the charge at 70%. The remaining 15% is reserved for the native Sagrantino. Kirsch, charcuterie, salt and pepper.

Rich flavours of smokey spices, saw dust, tobacco and chocolate, hints of rhubarb, strawberries. Soft, coffee-like tannins, gentle on the palate, light acidity. Lingers gently. Very nice.

Supermarket blend. Why did the Italians accept mademoiselle Merlot., a northerly migrant, to join their terroir? Perfect to get drunk in 3 glasses. That's why it tastes better after "some aeration" time.

Fantastic full bouquet, smooth as silk, strong woody tannins but not overwhelming. Pairs perfectly with pate and beef. Fantastic first pairing for our Christmas Eve meal in Siena!
