Sasso di Sole
Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Dinner party so no formal notes. Entering its prime drinkability window. Really nice balance and freshness to go along with the ‘15 depth.

Jan 21st, 2024Terrific, though very young, wine. Nose takes some airing to emerge. Then, rich dark cherry fruit, complemented with lots of warm sandstoney scents, cracked rocks, and exotic spice notes. In the mouth it’s tightly wound, but shows really good concentration and depth, with excellent acidity and (of course) lots of youthful, but fine-grained, tannin. Really good now, but will improve for at least 5 or more years. Rating is 9.3+. Really nice with Marchegiani pasticciata, an eye of the round that’s larded and then braised with vegetables, red wine, and tomatoes, then sliced and braised some more!

Jan 29th, 2021Firm, tough and muddied in flavor. A big disappointment for this stellar vintage.

Sep 13th, 2022I found I really like this producer. Light notes of leather and dried cherry and raspberry. Black tea, fig newtons, and a lil spice cake. The tannnis are there but staring to resolve nicely, medium grained and light siltyness. Acid not overt, medium..? Very well resolved at this point but not peaking yet. Drink or hold. Decant 45 at least.

Oct 11th, 2020Lovely Italian red. Big and bold but with subtlety. Vanilla, cinnamon, spice, hint of chocolate, slight leathery taste to it. Very enjoyable with some good cheese on a weekend night.
