Centgrafenberg Großes Gewächs Spätburgunder
Franken, Germany
Awesome example of Pinot noir. World class in fact. Pretty sure I prefer this over any domestic Pinot these days. Very elegant and pretty wine

Yesterday’s Wednesday Wine Committee, hosted by @Jeff Meyer , was so educational with fantastic German & Austrian wines. 1 sparkler, 5 whites, 5 reds, 1 dessert wine. All served blind as usual.
Red of the day. Top producer and it shows. This reminded me of Oregon pinot. Plenty of herbal and earthy notes but a nice balance of fruit too. Underripe blackberries, black cherry, black tea, potpourri, bay leaf and a distinct herbal note (oregano? Thyme?). Tannic but so nicely balanced. I called this Spätburgunder.

Centgrafenberg GG. More structured and dark than Hunsruck or Schlossberg. Needed 30 minutes. Stunning tho.

I admit I'm normally not a big fan of Pinot (Spätburgunder) from Germany. But Fürst is doing a great job here. Very withdrawn juice which needs some time in the decanter to show up. Sparse & straight without any compromise. Nice acid which shows that this wine can at least last another 5 years.

Masculine and meaty. Serious and darker fruits. Deeper nose than amazing. Huge palate with serious concentration and purity and transparency. Stellar.

Medium light garnet , wide garnet rim . Quite open from the off , red cherry , rose , red currant , raspberry , a touch of smoky oak, after a while a little deeper fruit . On the palate this has quite sweet strawberry , raspberry , red currant but with good acidity , rounded on the palate but with quite gritty tannins , with saline hints on the spiced cherry tinged finish . This is still pretty young and needs a little more time , maybe 2-4 more years , and will last a further 5-8.
