Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Sweet nose of black fruits, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco and black pepper.

Full bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light cedar, licorice, chocolates, coffee, light earth and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This 9 year old Zinfandel from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully now. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel, complex and entertaining.

Drinking at its peak, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. Tangy and spicy, rich and inviting.

I had this vintage 7 years ago, and it is drinking much better now.

Wine Enthusiasts 91 points.

Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$50.

Robert Biale often makes Zinfandels with surprising finesse and energy. They’re delicious and sexy and well balanced. If you don’t think Zinfandel is worth drinking try any of the Robert Biale versions and let me know if you’ve changed your mind.

Nose has cherry liqueur, blackberry liqueur damp-dried leaves, forest moss, fresh ground French roast coffee beans and crushed fresh blackberries.

Palate has ripe black cherry, blackberry compote, chocolate brownie corner, wet leather with mild tannins and dry earth on a long finish.

Decanted 60m at time of notes, but continuing to unfold in the Gabriel-Glas.

The oldest vintage of Black Chicken in our cellar; acquired from the winery in April 2006. A good wine to pair with making a massive batch of BBQ sauce today for canning, something to sip while the aroma penetrates our house (usually lasts 2-3D 🤦🏻‍♂️) but we'll happily be enjoying sauce well into 2023.
(Biale is performing better then a 2004 Rosenblum opened alongside today.)

Ripe dark fruit like black cherry, plum, fig, prune, cassis with cinnamon and spice note. Somewhat dusty. Smooth with silky tannin. Wish had more acidity.

The Biale tradition began in the 1930's when Pietro Biale, an immigrant from Genoa, began planting Zinfandel on his Napa farm in 1937. An amazing Zin! Dark red with aromas of ripe fruits, floral and spice. On the palate, juicy chery, strawberry and cinnamon spice flavors. Soft fine tannins, nice balance with lingering finish ending with mineral tones.
