Rivers-Marie
Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Last bottle of my 2018 SC.
Followed over two days. Juicy, ripe and balanced. Astounding value at $30. Haven’t found the signature TRB blood orange profile in these RM SCs, but that’s a small nitpick. Loads of red and black berry fruit upfront, boysenberry, red currant and dark florals. Mid palate was much better on day two as it bulked up and showed the nervy side of SC Pinot. It has a high toned/elegant profile while retaining weight. Stylistically it sits in between RRV and cool climate SC. Banging value, as always. Drink now or in the next 3-5yrs.

Citrus, cranberry, berry bramble, earthiness. Good stuff.

Oct 20th, 2018Fresh and lively. Enters with dense fruit that is well framed by acidity and carries through to the pure red fruited finish. With air time the spice flavors develop and there is a little bit of a fresh asphalt note that is delicious.

Aug 21st, 2018Nothing compelling to say, just that it’s definitely the right decision. Oh, and sorry Mom and Dad, I raided your cellar... (I definitely don’t have any 2014 left).

Mar 28th, 2018Another bottle that fell victim to experiment. Couldn’t resist after seeing @Patrick Derdeyn review earlier this week. This is actually my first Rivers-Marie Sonoma Coast Pinot.
I see tons of reviews of people claiming this to be the best QPR Pinot coming out of Cali. Wow, are those people SPOT ON. In the glass at pop and pour, it was very berry focused and acidic. After about 30mins, this was a knockout. Upfront, raspberry/cherry/black cherry on the nose but it fades to almost a meaty/beef jerky note. Never gotten that on a pinot. Great acidity. Orange cream on the palate, alongside cedar, lavender, raspberries and spices. I’ve only got 1 left...crap.

In a more fruit forward style as always, but a short rest in the bottle has helped this focus a bit. Bright red fruit with cedar, licorice, and the signature orange peel. Delicious and utterly gulpable.
