Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. Although this is Godello from Bierzo, this was meant to be a fun counter example to Sketch which is arguably a bit unique when it comes to Raul Pérez’s typical style. The 2020 “La Claudina” pours a deeper straw color with notes of lemons, grapefruit, Brazil nuts, hazel nuts (yeah, it’s definitely more in the oxidative style) and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and saline with a slightly sherried, creamy texture. Charming stuff and definitely something I would like to track over time. Enjoy now through 2035.

Nose and attack are incredible. Like the most luscious chardonnay with a touch more volume. Guava, perfume of tropical fruits, floral notes. The arc primes one for breadth and concentration the mid palate is missing. But then the finish is zingy and lasts forever.

Intense, focused and aromatic. Some of my favorites from Spain are made by Perez.

Burgundian flare, fresh, complex and full body, notes of exotic citrus, marzipan, brioche and very good length.

More ripe in style than I was expecting from this region, which would be OK were it a little better balanced.

2010. Rich and layered Godello. Treated with a Burgundian touch. Nice with some bottle age and plenty of life ahead of it.

2011 Interesting nutty oxidative notes, but monochromatic and lacking fruit. Not worth the dough, at least this vintage.
