Bramante Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

Great nose. Lots of leather, smoke and tar. Mineral as all can be. Smells stoney. Hint of florals and freshly stepped in moss. Palate is rich, structured and closed. A tiny bit of heat peeks out. This 15.5% so.....a brave new world we are in! But balanced as well, elegant and pure. Terrific fruit thrust and concentration. Good minerals and lovely structure. I’d wait 5 years.

Killer. Classic old school Sangiovese nose. Elegant mid season cherry and so lifting. Spice and Cherry flower. Earthy and leathery. Palate is juicy and so elegant with amazing depth and structure. So juicy and really nimble wine. Terrific inner mouth aromas. Deep, energetic and persistent. Vivid mid season cherries all the way through. Terrific balance. A baby now but has 15 years ahead of it.

Stunning classic Brunello nose. Big saturated cherries, wet earth, some funk and minerals. Smells ripe as well. Palate is deep, structured and mineral with lovely fruit but seems to lack lift. Maybe air will sort this out.

Night 2 notes: This was quite lean and a bit austere on night 1. It started to come around with air, but it didn’t have much time to stretch out as it came in off the bench to pinch hit for a starting line-up red that was benched for being corked. On night 2, this is much more open, but it is on the lean and savory end of the spectrum. Color is quite advanced. Nose has underbrush, dried old leather, and a bit of eucalyptus. The only fruit is a hint of dried macerated cherry. Lean in the mouth, with a drying, tannic finish. Somewhat disappointing.

Sound and true to its origin, but... Lacks nerve and intensity. Unrip tannins.

Nose is floral. Understated but lovely.

Palate is sweet cherries. Great texture. Some cocoa.

Getting more elegant as it opens. Dusty cherries. Sweet wood. great finish. Man. This is amazing.

Needs an hour decant.
