Flew to Neverland today and lost the battle against a Lugana. I blame the food choice. Great wine. Just lacking balance. Acidity is a bit overpowering. Give it a year or two on the shelf.

Fresh, bright Soave Classico from the garganega grape. A spectacular white with Meyer lemon aromas, laced with citrus and mineral notes. Slight green herbaceous notes. What a nice find!

The 2020 Soave Classico wafts up with enticing notes of kiwi and sour melon contrasted by savory herbs. It’s deeply textural and round in feel, with a tart interplay of lemon and lime that’s nicely offset by a pleasant inner sweetness. There’s wonderful harmony here, as the 2020 tapers off with green botanicals and a flourish of minerality. This “entry-level” Soave Classico from Pieropan punches well above its price point. Since Pieropan makes three different bottlings, one from each tank, of their Soave, I thought it prudent to add the lot number for reference. (Lot# 26.10.21) (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2022)

Easy drinking. Not too acidic. Pretty smooth.

Can’t go wrong with Italian grapes.

Blend of 85% Garganega & 15% Trebbiano di Soave, from the heart of Soave, the Winery of Leonildo and Teresita Pieropan dates back to 1860. Pale lemon with green edges and aromas of fresh stone fruits, floral blossoms and herb spice. On the palate apple and pineapple with lemon citrus juice notes. Well balanced with vivid acidity carrying through to a pleasing finish. Tasting a Sample.

La Rocca, made from 100% Garganega and aged for 15 months in large barrels. Bright lemon yellow with aromas of tropical fruits and oak notes, very rich and complex. On the palate apple, pear and orange zest with nutty flavors and lively acidity. Smooth and elegant the wine ends with oak, mineral notes and a bit of spice. Nice! Tasting Sample.
