In a lovely spot right now, the single-vineyard 2019 Calvarino from Soave icon Pieropan is a gorgeous, pithy, inviting example of what the region has to offer. It benefits from time out of the fridge, when floral aromas of bitter orange, thyme, honey and lemon emerge. It strikes a beautiful balance on the palate between its bitter, acidic character and flecks of sweetness – like a great lemon tart, if that isn’t too crude. It might not be the most complex white wine out there, but it more than makes up for it in sheer drinking pleasure. Best enjoyed on a sunny day with a pasta al limone.

Moderate ( + ) intense aromas of white stone fruit, grape, lemongrass, honey blossom and some tropical notes (unripe pineapple), stones.
Dry palate, with a high acidity, medium bodied palate with a pronounced intensity and linear mineral backbone. Great performance considering the price

This Soave Classico has quite a yellow-gold color in the glass. The nose has aromas of apricot, Meyer lemon and minerals, but with an overriding earthiness to it. The palate delivers great minerality, apricot and lemon zest in the full mouthfeel. Acidity zings and leaves its calling card on the lengthy finish.

If I look tired, well who isn’t tired this year has been a million years long which is probably why I’ve wanted lively wines, but ones with intellect. Like the people that know how to have funny energy discussing serious things...is this the John Oliver of wine? It banters of both salted dried peach and bushes encountered on a Midwest hike and lemon conserve. It’s fresh but deep. Like the discourse I’d like to have with like minds.

The single vineyard Calvarino is a bargain, well worth every penny. Candied lemon, stone fruit, very floral with blossom and elderflower and a stony background. Fresh acidity with good fruit intensity, strong mid palate and a salty finish.

This is probably 60 percent as good as the 2013 I had recently. Still, I cant go below 9.1.
