Leeuwin Estate
Art Series Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon
A cooler expression of cabernet is the usual Margaret River way and this shows all of the minty capsicum it can in balance with currants and red cherry fruit. Barely a trace of oak. Med+ tannin, med/med+ acids add a nice juicy mouthwatering med+ finish.

Aug 6th, 2022Tonight I have opened the 2017 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaret River, Australia. A blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec.
The nose is very expressive with notes of black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, green bell pepper, black pepper, spice and chocolate.
On the palate are beautiful notes of black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, green bell pepper, baking spice, vanilla, violets, cedar and graphite.
This wine is full bodied with lots of energy, powerful with loads of complexity which also has medium + to high acidity and medium+ fully round fine tannins that leaves us with a long black fruit herbal woodsy finish. Let's look to the week ahead with positivity and hope. Stay healthy, strong and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

2014 vintage. Good combo of fruity and savory. Red currant, black cherry, sage, white pepper, tree bark, sandalwood. Lots of life left.

Oct 18th, 2021Screwcap.
Lithe. However, the palate signature displays notes of underripe green veggies and olives. Also lacks sweetness. Tannins are well presented, but this may not evolve to a better place. Overall, disappointing.

A delightful Aussie Cab. Lived up to its ratings. Dense black fruit, with swirls of Cranberry and tobacco, cedar box.

Feb 28th, 2020From Magnum. Leeuwin Estate’s Cabernets are becoming as good as their famous Chardonnays. Herbaceous with cassis mineral and savoury tannins. Not as full bodied as the 707 which followed but this is more Text Book Left Bank Cabernet with a long life ahead. Excellent.

Dec 13th, 2017Deep and dark in color, clear and aromatic. Hard to tell there's as much age as the vintage because I wasn't seeing any orange or brown. Aromatic with smoke, bell peppers, cedar/oak, cherry and raspberry. The fruit was last to come on the nose. This wine was very bright and vibrant on the palate. Medium-sweet with possible RS, medium and round tannins, flavorful and a nice long finish.

1 person found it helpfulMar 15th, 2017An elegant Australian CS, modern, polished and well appreciated by critics (scores in Australia of up to 95 points). I was expecting a more deep and intense wine, as I had previous versions, maybe the wine went for a dump period, or just needed decanting. Deep red color, nose full of red current, black current, blueberries, a touch of cherries, sweet spices and mocha, medium to full body with mild tannins a vibrant acidity. Interesting yet lacking complexity. My score 88, drink 2015 -2020.
