It’s great to grab a wine with a little age. Deep Ruby color with aromas of dark fruits, floral spice and cedar notes, blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc, aged 75% on new oak. On the palate flavors of blackberry, ripe plum and black cherry with cacao, tobacco, licorice and spice. Fine developed tannins, well balanced on long finish, ending with fruit, cedar and earthy spice character. Very nice, tasting great now.

2015 vintage. The second wine of Grand-Puy-Lacoste. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Oak dominates the nose, with black fruits lurking in the background. A serious wine, even a bit severe with a solid dusty tannic structure. A bit underwhelming, given the long track record of excellence of the Grand vin. This will probably need a few more years of bottle ageing. Abv. 13,5 %.

Vintage 2012 | coming into its tertiary period. Lost its fruit, oak more in front. ‘Richesse’ as the French would say, but a bit onedimensional. Paired with chicken.

The pencil box! The sweet vanilla of tobacco! The cassis that goes on! And every structural element worked. Very, veryveryvery lovely. Not crazy in the way that my head was spinning but sometimes you want a wine that isn’t just there for you but also is just a lil bit special🍷

Vintage 2012 - The difficulty of top vintages is that you have to wait so long before the wine is at it’s prime. This 2012 is drinking great right now, beautiful balance and smooth. Vivid. #pauillac

Cherry cough syrup nose, alcohol and volatile acetic acidity, intense aromas. Medium+ tannins. Medium body. Lacking tannins and concentration. Very fruity and easy drinking

The 2009 Lacoste-Borie is drinking beautifully. Open for business on the nose, it offers earthy, red berry fruit laced with cedar and subtle earthy tones. The palate is well balanced with fine-grained tannins, classic in style, yet the precocity of the growing season lends it a sense of rondeur towards the finish. Nothing amazingly complex - just a delicious Pauillac. Tasted at the château. (Neal Martin, Vinous, January 2023)
