Classic Nebbiolo aromatics. Dried flower petals, dusty cherries, herbs, cocoa nibs and lots of grip. BYOB at Lucali pizza in Brooklyn.

This is in a great spot and really pops with food.
Bit hot at 14.5%.

La Ca' Nova's 2019 Barbaresco is stellar. Deep, layered and expansive on the palate, the 2019 is so impressive. Sweet red cherry, plum, blood orange mint and spice give this charming, effusive Barbaresco tons of complexity. The 2019 is a serious, serious wine with a lot going on. Don't overlook it. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2022)

Happy Mother's Day! Resin, cherry, white pepper, on the nose and palate. Very sharp, chalky and mouth tightening tannins with medium plus acidity leads to that eye squinting that you may remember from sour Now N Laters or Sour Charms. This is definitely not a polished form of nebbiolo, but I respect the effort. La Ca' Nova's other Barbarescos are better. Stay tuned.

Barbaresco #2 not much better than the Socre I just panned. (And this is my third unsuccessful pull tonight, as this and the prior Barbaresco were preceded by a completely undrinkable 08 Ghemme.) Double decanted (through an aerator), the nose shows some Nebbiolo fruit (dried cherry), and some rose petals and minerally earth, but there’s a little scorchy note that detracts. Very tannic and skinny in the mouth. All bones and little flesh. I’ll put this away, try it tomorrow, and pull something dependable for tonight’s dinner.

UPDATE: Even worse on night 2. Showing oxidized notes as well now.

Developing, delicious and more “on point” than other la ca nova offerings which tend to feel tired and non-descript. Dried roses, leather, and game - this is where it’s at!

Pale garnet color. Medium+ aromas of ripe cherry, dried strawberry , raspberry, dried rose and peony, woody. Developing.
The wine is dry, high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, medium body, medium+ intense flavor of dried cherry, strawberry, rose and vanilla. Finish is medium.
Very good, but too young.

Lovely nose of dried red fruits and rose petals. Beautiful garnet color. Showing it’s best fruit after two hours open with cherries, soft spice, and baking chocolate. Slightly bitter finish.
