Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese Riesling
Long gold cap. Beautiful precise fruit. Lime, delicate honeyed golden stuff. Delicate and delicious.

Oct 18th, 2024A tasting of seven Auslese Rieslings from Wehlener Sonnenhur, 2005-2020. This wowed me and was my #1. ABV 7.5%. While on the sweeter side was not cloying at all and I wouldn’t only pair it with desert.

Oct 29th, 2023Tawny gold. Peach and a bit of golden sweet tea. Nice presence. Soft at edges. Quietly sweet

Sep 22nd, 2023JJP never fails me, at least when given appropriate bottle age, as with this 28 year old Auslese. Chamomile, honey, dried figs, and loads more. Probably at its peak now but no two, old, cork-finished wines are alike so…?

Sep 4th, 2023First bottle of my 2019 WSU Auslesen from Prüm, and only my second ever Auslese from the estate. I think I knew what to expect from this wine, and sure enough it’s really closed down at the moment, with some spellbinding characteristics that need time to knit together. There isn’t a great deal to the nose, but the palate is gorgeous, very tropical, sweet but featherlight, with some pleasing bitter orange flavour that appears after two hours of air. It seems quite low in acidity, a characteristic of the vintage, and slightly incomplete at present but a joy to drink and a great match for Thai curry.
Eleven more bottles in this case and I shan’t open the next for another five years at least!

A touch of spritz light. Dazzling. Sweet stone fruit with lemon and stone. Delicious

Jan 27th, 2023Medium gold, lighter than the GK bottle next to it. Heavy in the glass. More powerful nose than the GK with a strong core of acidity. Notes of apricot, spice and some almond paste. Really nice, and for me the better wine tonight next to the 90 WSA Goldkap next to it.

Dec 10th, 2022Lovely and bright. Light in color with delicate sweetness and a great streak of acidity. Early after pour a touch of spritz. Really lovely and very defined. Excellent- and great with food
