Bricco delle Viole Barolo Nebbiolo

Softer and more feminine with a modern flare. Would have guessed Barbaresco.

Terrific wine to cap off team drinks. Rose, tar, lavender, gorgeous structure, backbone, intense yet surprisingly light. If you were to do a word-cloud of what an excellent 2010 Barolo should be like, the large lettered words would be the tasting note here. It is an exemplar of quality for its type.

Terrific. Clearly young but even now this wine is astounding. Dark cherries and flowers. Just the right amount of tannin and oak to coat your palate for a lengthy finish. So many years ahead of it, but a stunner today.

Drinking Barolo with the man himself, from one of my consistently favorite producers. With a firm, but dusty tannic backdrop, the wine seduces with an ethereal rose petal, dried violet aroma while smoke and licorice inform the long finish. Fabulous, structured, and while still nascent, it’s fabulously captivating today.

Roses before V-Day

One of the BEST young bottles of Nebbiolo I've had in recent memory. Spicy cardamom notes coupled with underripe red fruit and pine needles. Bravo ! #cantstopwontstop

Talk about potential. Through a series of events, I was given the opportunity to taste this bottle three times throughout the day, and each taste was better then the one before. At 10am, it was all about intensity and densely packed fruit laced with minerals and finishing on tannin. At 1pm, it began to open, gaining flesh and nuance and spicy, leather, earth and balsamic tones joined the mix. At 5pm, it was a study in elegance. Still youthful in its tannin, but so giving all the same. Gorgeous floral tones and dark red fruits, gave way to of cedar and minerals. This is a wine for the ages.
