Rennina Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina is captivating as balsam herbs, wilted violets, and stone dust smolder up, slowly giving way to a core of crushed blackberry. This is pure class, silky and elegant yet racy. Brisk acidity and masses of mineral-tinged dark red fruits saturate the palate, which is lifted by a orange hint toward the close as salty minerals penetrate. Like liquid stone, the 2016 remains youthfully structured, with a wall of fine tannins that grips the senses and a coating of primary concentration that promises balance for a long life. This Brunello is medium dark red in color. The nose shows cherry and cassis aromas, draped in anise, cedar, vanilla and a layer of smoke. The palate is fruity and carries a good acidity and tannic structure. A spicy streak cuts through with an herbal character. The finish is long and brings the savory aspect back for a reminder.

Apr 25th, 2021The tannins are like silk in my mouth! Integrated aromas/flavors of vanilla, fresh plum, and sweet balsamic. Had it with an amazing eight course meal on New Year’s Eve. Such a treat!

In the mouth, the dark fruits (cherry and plum) lead the way with hints of black licorice, and iron. Firm and complex. Tannins are tight but well integrated. Beautiful length. Classic! Nov 6th, 2022Delightful! Tannic and acidic, but has a dark cherry/currant-ness to it. Slightly smoky but barely. Felt like making a random weeknight feel special so we enjoyed this and it was perfect!

Immediately vibrant and fruity aroma. Just smells fresh and bright. First few sips - cherry. Sage underbrush. Needs food.
