Gaja
Ca' Marcanda Magari Toscana Sangiovese Blend
We tasted this vintage back in 2017. While this is less compact, it requires decanting as it still presents as being premature.

Dec 27th, 2022This inky ruby-colored wine offers up a nose as dark as its hue. Black cherry, tar and old leather mix in with tobacco and vanilla notes. There is an herbal element, too, which gives a sort of minty framework for the aromas. The palate is a juicy array of dark fruit with a touch of anise. The tannins are fine and smooth and the finish brings those dark berry flavors back for a lengthy review.

Apr 25th, 2021Angelo Gaja’s venture - Ca'Marcanda. Blend of 60% Cab Franc, 30% Cab Sauv & 10% Petit Verdot, barrel aged for 12 mos. A big, very rich Gaja style wine. Deep red with dark berry fruits and earthy leathery spice notes. On the palate blackberry and black cherry flavors, smooth with integrated herb spice, mint and tobacco, lively acidity. Fine tannins, great balance, long finish ending with mineral spice character. Very nice. Will age well!

1 person found it helpfulJul 11th, 2019A wonderful wine, youthful but already showing plenty of complexity with an intense fruit profile that is carrying the oak, and the tertiary characters. good intensity on the palate, with a long developing finish, give it some rest for a better harmony and integration on the palate.
