F.X. Pichler
Loibner Oberhauser Smaragd Riesling
Second wine in the last few weeks and this is a great reintroduction. Intense, alkaline/stone, crushed Bosc pear, hints of sun-warmed, fuzzy peach and apricot, toasted almond. Palate is surprisingly low acid with a weighty, viscous feel. The aftertaste js distinctly stony, like a European mineral water.
Yesterday I thought this would be good with a scallop and kumquat ceviche. Today I paired it with pan roasted chicken tenderloins, pan gravy, heirloom corn-bread, creamed kale and a mustardy beet salad. This was a good foil to the mixed/richness on the plate.

Love love, Le sigh, such salinity and minerality I got the slightestttttt bit of chlorine but in a way that made things more intriguing on top of green pears and passion fruit

Jun 23rd, 2017Had it March 2011.
Straw yellow. Nose of pineapple, lemon, Apple, pear, toasted pine nuts, pine tree itself, elegant green part. Seaweed, seabreeze, turquoise, wet rock. Salted butter. Gunpowder and kerosene. Mouth: little sweet, all very ripe. But very balanced( like a balanced spatlese). Good length, easy to drink, complex and still young. Finishes with mountain lawns scents.

Boom. Best wine at the meeting. Lots of aromas, light and elegant body long finish.
