Franz Hirtzberger
Rotes Tor Smaragd Grüner Veltliner

Fleshy, full flavour, big shoulders
Still pale
2009 is a big vintage
White plum, crunchy apple, nectarine, pineapple and litchee
White pepper, ginger, hay, coriander, almondy and toasty
Long, long and long

Loved this over several nights, exuberant and exotic with zip and phenolics to hold everything up. Apricot, pineapple, racing citrus notes, mushrooms, candied ginger, saffron, white tea, herbs.

Petrol, mineral, golden fruit, note of botrytis. Good acid. Still fresh. Spicy, peppery. Note as baroque as some vintages.

At age 10, finally evolving from shy reticence into poised, quiet elegance. Still so young and fresh.

Had it November 2008.
Unbelievably fantastic!!!!
This is the bottle that made me decide that I would start buying Wachau Smaragd wines to cellar them.
Still young, very chalky, citrusy and super long flavour on the palate. Great substance and incisiveness. It could still evolve, but it is also so easy to drink 😍😍
