2015 editionβ€”Very closed right now. If you’re going to pay these prices it definitely makes sense to wait, especially with how delicious the more entry level Cornelissens are these days

The 2016 'Magma' Rosso is the "Grand Vin" from Cornelissen and was sourced from the Contrada Barbabecchi, which was planted in 1910 and situated at 910 meters above sea level. The Barbabecchi Vineyard is positioned at a North-North East exposure, and consists of ungrafted 100+ year old vines of Nerello Mascalese. The resultant wine is simply magnificent, as it slowly unwinds and begins to release a wonderful range of aromatics, including dried dark cherries and ripe red plums, which are woven together with exotic spices, eucalyptus, dried florals, dusty leather, blood orange and a subtle hint of cedar all taking shape beautifully in the glass. This impeccably structured wine continues to impress on the palate with its remarkable overall depth and precise concentration through the incredibly long finish. While already showing so much, this has a tremendous amount of potential to age beautifully for many years to come. Overall, this is another brilliant effort from Frank Cornelissen, and is amongst one of the most fascinating wines you will find in all of Italy.

Not sure this day would ever happen but alas, the magic of Etna and the magic of Cave Ox in Solicchiata, we decided that it was time - and on a day when the producer invited us over to join him at his table, we got to experience this living, ever evolving tribute to Etna, coming from 100+ year old prephylox vines from 910 m ASL from the "Grand Contrada" of Barbabaecchi. Not to mention the kick ass 2014 vintage. It was intoxicatingly fragrant with earthy red fruits erupting from the glass, dense, concentrated, complex and constantly evolving flavors with spice, leather, and seductive dark cherry, and a dreamingly long mouthfeel that lingered and danced along the palette. Lava in a bottle. What a memory. Thanks Frank πŸ·πŸŒ‹ #frankcornelissen #etna #CaveOx

2013. Tannins had yet to resolve. Would love to check back in 5 years. Not sure I'm on board, considering the price.

One of my favorites at RAW Berlin today. Clean, pure, deep, very precise & Terroir driven. And Frank is one of the most simpatico vintners I've ever met.
