Gerogous right out of the bottle. Fell off significantly after 4 hours of being open.
So pop drink and enjoy!

I don’t know if this was ever drinkable. It sure isn’t now.

Every time I have an old bottle of wine I am so grateful for when the wine shines like it did here for this birth year Brunello of mine. The energy and persistence is the core life source here. The fruit is red, dried and savory, with all sorts of wood spice and earth tones harmonizing on the palate.

From the get-go, the 2016 Brunello from Fattoria dei Barbi is an attractive, forthcoming wine showing all the hallmarks of a great vintage, which of course 2016 was - in Montalcino as in Tuscany, Italy, Europe, indeed the world so it seems. It is oaked in a barrel

Quite pale garnet in colour, the wine has pretty aromas of rose petal, dry cherry, cranberry, with some lavender, dark chocolate, and coffee bean.

The palate is firm, juicy, with a well of macerated cherry and kirsch liqueur to go with savoury characteristics of aged meat and herbs. Acidity is high, but this is enjoyable now with a good decant - it will of course age very well too.

Delicate light brick color, slightly viscous; concentrated deep nose of ripe and dried red cherries, strawberries, and mulberries and fennel, herbs, and madelaine cookies; medium dry mouthfeel, small fine tannins, opulent, mature, with medium-high acids and alcohol, and long finish. I don’t know when these will peak, but not yet, for sure.

Had next to the Col d’Orcia; the latter knocked the socks off of this one. However it showed reasonably well but lacked punch, tertiary flavors, and somewhat in acids and tannins.

Takes its name from the free-spirited gentleman named Bruscone who lived in the woods of the Barbi Estate. Deep Ruby with sweet red berry aromas and earthy notes. On the palate cherry, licorice and sweet plum showing nicely. Soft tannins, well balanced on long finish ending with earthy herb tones. Tasting well still has room to age. Great value!

Takes its name from the free-spirited gentleman named Bruscone who lived in the woods of the Barbi Estate. Deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits and sweet herb notes. On the palate ripe cherry, plum and dried fruits with tobacco and cola notes, well balanced on firm tannins still with a good grip that loosens quickly. Long finish ending with mineral and earthy notes. Good now but will still benefit from a few more years. Went great with hearty pasta dish!
