Perfect autumn wine. Crisp red apple, kirsch, cranberry, raspberry, wet wood chips and porcini. So transparent in the glass and such a delicate texture (can’t believe the 14.1% ABV🤯 on the label). Watch out: VA starts creeping up and that lovely fragrant bouquet of roses on day 1 starts turning sour and synthetic on day 3.

An excellent, and accessible at an early stage Liaison. Significantly better than the Muschelkalk at this stage.

2019 | Pinot Noir
Enderle & Moll; Liaison
Rhine Valley; Baden, Germany
(92-93; drink 2024-29, 2H decant)
Paired to duck confit & green lentils, a favorite meal for cats and humans in our humble abode.
After a mere ~13 month wait after receiving into the cellar, we're finally pulling a cork today. This really wants another year to unfurl for my palate. All the hallmarks of this wine are here; ripe black cherry, tree moss, dehydrated strawberry, damp cedar, past season rose, orange zest, slight VA but unobtrusive, medium finish, dried cranberry.
A very special/unique vintage for Liaison based on this commentary from the winemakers:
"Unfortunately, we had quite heavy frost in some of our best red sandstone vineyards last year and additional problems with hail and high fungus pressure, which is the reason why we ultimately decided to only bottle our "Basis", the "Liaison" and our "Muschelkalk" (shell limestone) this year. The barrels from the other top vineyards ended up in our "Liaison", which is ultimately reflected in the quality of this years "Liaison"..."
With the best of luck, this situation will not be repeated; so 2019 drink happily knowing it's a blend of the best grapes.

Damn. Liaison....every year. 2019 is all about elegance and femininity. Grand Cru stuff. Burgundian by weight, Germanic in tone. Impossible expression crammed in the most dainty little box. Looks like it could be thin, but it's not. Murky, unfiltered, straddles the tradition and the wild. Bright red cherries and mossy forresty, earth...strawberries and rosemary on the periphery. What a bargain.

N: Cherries and tree bark from a German fantasy land, soil lurking, tobacco, small strawberries, very transparent.
P: Cedar, tiny berries, cherries, wonderful mouthfeel, silken and acidic wrapped together. Very savory, almost dried meats. Long aftertaste and finish.

The legendary 2019. A stunning bottle. Nose starts out quiet but one can tell it’s all there. Rose petals. Vivid mid season cherry. Spices galore. Haunting. Ethereal. Classic Liaison. It opens up every 30 seconds or so aromatically. Wow. Nose is a 9.6. This is the best one since 15. Palate is so juicy, so lithe, so elegant and full of gorgeous and vivid sweet cherry fruit. A gossamer like texture as par the course. Tree bark, orange rind now on the nose. Tannins start to come in something fierce after around 15 minutes but they will add fruit as it airs. What a wine. Closest Liaison to the GC’s I’ve ever had.
