Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet (Hervé Souhaut)
Saint Joseph Syrah
Northern Rhône Syrah made like Beaujolais (lighter extraction, carbonic maceration). Juicy and high toned with good high toned. Graceful. 11.5% abv. A nice entry to Hervé Souhaut, but I am partial to their Gamay for its darker pitch and depth.

Jan 17th, 2018Whether the low sulfur charm has been dominated by brettanomyces and VA, or this wine is just northern Rhône gamey off the charts - it’s too much for me. Looking forward to cracking the 2016 I have for comparison. Not holding up or improving imo

Dec 20th, 2017Every single northern Rhône Syrah marker clearly delineated and hung on an open knit frame. I don't think these turn into the ethereal masterpieces of say, Allemand, but rather they offer an airy, drink-now visceral pleasure.

Jul 22nd, 2017Spice cake, cocoa, dark purple fruit and cigar tobacco on the nose, belying a body that is light and carbonic. Enjoyable. This has stood up commendably to the test of time, but doesn’t quite have the body and weight to carry the tertiary complexity. Probably better when it was fresher and fruitier.

Aug 16th, 2016Seriously built-up with fierce tannins and ripe acidity creating drinkability if you can accept its natural resistance. Well defined and elegant finish.
