Beast mode, this is always over the top and grandiose and wears it well in 2007 just at the limit of ripeness being too ripe.

Reddish tawny color, translucent. Exotic herbal nose. Notes of cherry kirsch, herbs de provence, strawberries, dark soil. High pitched fruit in the mouth. Very Grenache. Chewy with some pucker. Good acidity for an 03. A bit over the top and not my style.

What started out as a a typical P. Usseglio bottle, with its rich and heavy fruit and somewhat voluptuous texture/concentration, actually became a stunning exemplar of goût de terroir. Of course ripe and soaked black/blue fruit, but all equally balanced by lavender pastille, violet, warm spices, baked stones, singed iron, grilled grapefruit, and anise. Not always the biggest fan of these, but this was welcomed and pleasant surprise!

Some oxidation brought this down from 9.7 or 9.8. Decanting opened it but did not increase the ox. Last bottle, some were like this one, some were near perfection. Suggest drink now.

I like CDP’s and this one is simply one of the best that I have had in a while. Unique nose, opened to figs, black fruit and nutmeg. Just a wow experience.

Opens with an impenetrable wall of animal aromas. Once it dissipates, Kirsch and incense appear. In a tough place but should emerge in a few years at a better place. Not for everyone. 100% Grenache.
