Domaine Jean-Louis Chave
Saint-Joseph Syrah
Beautiful Syrah - zero carbonic - lovely spice and extraction. At 5-6 years this is aging gracefully. Blackberry, bramble, cracked pepper.

Feb 8th, 2023Brilliant. Wide, deep and expansive, darkly fruited nose. Tiny purple flowers and pink peppercorn. Perfumed. Some doughy aromas. Ripe black cherries with herbal notes of savory, oregano and menthol on the salty, long finish. Fruity, suave, nicely tart and concentrated palate. Just getting going.

May 21st, 2021Taking a few of the 2017s for a test drive. More complex and robust than the Offerus. Blackberry, tart cherry, pork fat and smoke. Not too closed today with air but will get better over time.

Jun 23rd, 2020Powerful Syrah that needs a 2-3 hour decant but once opened up there are dark fruits and baking spices to enjoy. It perhaps lacks a bit of refinement but i would buy and drink again!

Mar 12th, 2023Once again, gorgeous Chave, the longer in the glass, the better. Typical Syrah, violets, pepper, luscious and rich palate but with class and elegance still.

For an old world Syrah, this is showing significant fruit: cranberry, black currant, and blackberry. Background aromas, however, shine through with smoked minerals, black pepper, leather, and vanilla.
I love the juicy, lengthy, peppery finish on this wine.
