Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin pours a garnet color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of strawberry, raspberry, sous bois, red flowers, horse blanket, mushroom and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This is a fairly textbook example of the 2014 vintage with its rustic green streak coupled with Lignier’s charm. Drink now through 2029.

Smoky cranberry turns black raspberry tinged with slinky boysenberry and pine nut with thyme. Silky and forward fruit shows red apple skin and tart cherry with dried raspberry and cola wood. Generous resonating persistence revisits smoky note and blackberry.

Served blind, this was assumed to be from the New World. Very fruit sweet, warm and with and earthy edge; drinking quite well at present.

Exquisite.

High toned and red fruited Gevrey, loads of spice and fresh pine, herbs. Decent for an hour, keeps building.

So so so young and tight. Needs mucho time!

Too young, more fruity and concentrated than all previously tasted.

A lesson to the youngsters in "it's not oak, it's clonal selection and terrior" but damn if it doesn't smell like chocolate soufflet with raspberry compote.

Seeing what's up. Two thumbs up. Can't wait to revisit last we down the road. One of the more accessible 11's I've had. But seems like gevrey is killing it in 11 compared to elsewhere.

Terrific wine. High acid w ripe ripe fruit.
