Over shadowed by its peers on this night though a very respectable and lovely wine. Comes across as very 2016 vintage which, in my book, is complimentary.

Smells like dark chocolate cordial cherries.

Opened for at least 3 hours, a dense soup of cocoa, blackberry preserves, with a hint of acidity and whisky tannins.
Even though by Law, these winemakers can use up to 13 varietals (16 if they pushed it) most are only farming Grenache and Syrah, as with global warming these varietals do best. Gone are the classic barnyard and pencil shaving tasting notes... Le Sigh...

I wonder what would happen if growers in CDP and elsewhere in the Southern Rhône picked when sugars were at a level that would render a wine under 14%. Has global warming made phenolic ripeness impossible at that sugar level there? Or is this a conscious choice? This 15% behemoth has interesting and intense dark savory flavors, but is dense and blocky, with very low acid.

Already quite lush, but still a little tight, with kirsch notes and lots of flinty stone.
