This predominantly Semillon/Sauv blend (70/30) from Domaine de Chevalier is a superb Bordeaux sec at a very attractive price.

Both rich and refreshing, the citrusy palate has wafts of peach, apricot, gooseberry and pear alongside a honeyed edge. The finish is long and mouthwatering, with good acidity. A brilliant wine.

2015 vintage. A project started in 2011 by Olivier Bernard (of Domaine de Chevalier fame) in Sauternes from vineyards in 3 different terroirs (Sauternes, Barsac and Bommes). Contrary to classic white Bordeaux, Sémillon is king here, reflecting in this 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon blanc blend, aged in French oak. Lune d'Argent is the middle range of the estate and the heart of the production. It stands for amazing value. Drinking beautifully now, but I suspect this will age gracefully for at least another 5 years. Light brilliant yellow. Very attractive nose combining exotic fruit with minerality, flowers and brioche. Juicy fresh pineapple and grapefruit, balanced mouth-watering acidity and perfectly integrated oak. This shows the potential of great dry white wines in the Sauternes region, where the famous sweet wines are sadly suffering from low demand in lethal combination with high production costs. Grab this one by the case at only 17,90 euros. Abv. 13%.

Vintage 2014 / a wine that’s so quaffable that you easily make the mistake it is simple. Citrus in smell and taste. Minerals. And although I always think what the hell do they mean with it, my grey cells produce the word ‘funky’. For what it is worth 😉 | Paired with chicken piri piri and nasi koening / from restaurant Pollevie, excellent done, you can take away during coronavirus quarantaine

Very intriguing counterpoint between saline/herbal nose and tropical/nutty mid palate. Polished, sexy, clean. Lots of savory seaweed aromatics.

(**) balanced, surprising presentation of Sauternes semillon in a dry style. Tasty.

Haven't had a White Bordeaux of this quality in a while! great fruit-acidity balance. Softer finish.

Bastille day French wine of course, I liked this but I feel it was holding back just a little but, I would have to think mostly because of the majority Semillon so it might need a few years to unfurl more grape expression.

Very Americanized. New oak prevalent on the palate. Okay, but nothing great.
