Odd mix of mascarpone and rubber tree, almond extract, cookie dough, caramelized banana, candied pecan with cinnamon bagel and cedar, fir tree, croissant, marmalade and loose cigar filler. Orange caramel glass on the palate opening to clove and candied ginger, even bringing an accompanying heat. Peach reduction, rum cake, and vanilla in abundance. Spirited and layered. #vinsanto #badiaacoltibuono #vinsantodelchianticladsico #doc #organicwines #estatewine #chianticlassico #seasonalwine #organicitalianwine #vinoitaliano #dessertwine

Badia a Coltibuono, or "The Abbey of good harvest," lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, between Florence and Siena. The Abbey is approximately 2000 years old. Ruby with aromas of black fruit and earthy spice nose. On the palate blackberry and cherry with savory tannins, good balance, noting black pepper and cacao. Medium finish ending with earthy mineral notes. Good now only short term aging benefit.

The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Badia a Coltibuono is a very pretty wine with lovely aromatic nuance and plenty of character to match its mid-weight personality. Crushed flowers, mint, lavender, spice and black cherry are all finely knit in this attractive, mid-weight Riserva. Fresh and energetic, the 2016 will drink nicely for many years to come. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2019)

Drank 10/13/18.
Drank with my beautiful wife at our anniversary dinner. Paired nicely with italian food (her favorite). No formal notes taken
Bright red cherry on the nose and palate mix with earth some leather. Medium, well integrated tannins. Medium finish. A great pairing with a wide variety of italian foods.
90 pts.

Super delightful, especially for the price. A bit farty upon opening but with plenty of air (I’ll decant the rest) shows crystalline pure red cherry fruit, savory herbs, and red clay soil. By now, tannins are very soft but acid is forward and fruit-driven, which keeps it interesting. Drinking great with a red sauce. I’ve seen this around, and may grab a few more bottles for casual drinking at an everyday price.
